Adwords Wrapper - Match Types

There are four match types in Google Adwords. Each match type has it's own syntax and meaning. The four types are listed below

Exact
Phrase
Broad
Negative

Keyword wrappers evolved to manage keywords with various match types. First, becuase it was difficult to manually edit a thousand keyword list so that each keyword had the proper syntax. Second, because new Adwords didn't know the syntax. The syntax for each type is below.

Exact = square brackets []
Phrase = double quotes ""
Broad = none (this is the default match type)
Negative = preceeding minus sign.

The meaning of each match type is different. They are explained below.

Exact Match = The identical keyword phrase, and only that keyword was searched for.

Phrase Match = The keyword phrase appeared somewhere within the search term.

Broad Match = Some keywords appeared in the search term

Negative Match = exclude the Ad from the results whenever this keyword is part of the search term.

Your keyword wrapper must allow you to pick and choose match types. It should provide the syntax you selected.

Adwords Wrapper - Keyword Destination Urls

One very important aspect of Adwords is the ability to supply keyword destination urls. This allows to you to have multiple keywords in a single adgroup, each with a different landing page. The syntax for such a keyword is...

keyword ** MaxCPC ** DestinationURL

The trick here is to have a unique landing page for each keyword. That way, your keyword, ad and landing page will all be relevant. Relevance yields high Quality Scores which lowers the cost of the campaign.

Any keyword tool must have the ability to provide destination urls. Plus, it must be able to generate unique urls for each keyword.

Also note that you can give keyword individual maximum CPC bids. Again, this is useful when you have multiple keywords per adgroup.

Adwords Wrapper - Multiple Keyword Lists

Many times you will have one list of keywords and another list of modifiers. A list of modifiers is often a list of adjectives. It could also be geographic locations to target specific locations. Your objective is combine each keyword with each modifier. The result is one giant list with every combination possible of long tailed keywords.

For geographic location example, imagine your keywords are "lawyer" and "attorney". Most people looking for an attorney want to find one where they are located. So, using city names or even state names make sense. You would wind up with....

Atlanta Attorney
Atlanta Lawyer
Boston Attorney
Boston Lawyer
Chicago Attorney
Chicago Lawyer

An example of a adjective modifier would using "cherry" or "oak" to combine with keywords like "dining room set" or "dresser".

As you can see, with a long list of keywords or modifiers, the task of manually creating combinations becomes overwhelming. Fortunately, the Adwords Keyword Wrapper Tool will combine multiple lists for you.
